Quad City Steamwheelers News Release

The playoffs are in full effect; most might be thinking that we are only half way into the season in the deuce (af2). Well, those people are right, so how can the playoffs be in full effect? The parent league of the af2, the Arena Football League (AFL) all ready has the first week of their playoffs completed and have moved onto the Quarterfinal round with eight teams left standing for a chance at the claiming the ArenaBowl XVII title.

The teams that are left to compete for the James Foster Cup are: Arizona, Detroit, Georgia, Los Angeles, New York, Orlando, San Jose and Tampa Bay.

On Saturday, May 31st, the Georgia Force will take on the defending ArenaBowl XVI champion San Jose Sabercats at 3:00 p.m. (EST) and the Detroit Fury will travel to Tampa Bay to take on the Storm at 3:00 p.m. (EST). The Storm/Fury game will be seen on KWQC-TV6 (NBC Affiliate in the Quad City and surrounding areas).

On Sunday, June 1st, the New York Dragons will take on the Orlando Predators and the Arizona Rattlers will take on the Los Angeles Avengers. Both games will kickoff at 3:00 p.m. (EST). Viewers in the Quad City area will see the New York/Orlando game.

Three former Steamwheelers will be featured this weekend. Arizona Rattlers FB/LB and last week's ADT Defensive Player of the Week Frank Trentadue will look to capitalize on last week's two tackles, two sacks, forced a fumble, and recovered a fumble for a touchdown in the Rattlers 69-26 victory over the former Steamwheelers head coach and current Las Vegas Gladiators coach Frank Haege. Trentadue has rushed seven times for a net of 15 yards, two of those rushes going for touchdowns; he also had one reception for nine yards.

On the defensive side of the ball, Trentadue has recorded 7.5 tackles and two quarterback hurries in his rookie season.

Last season with the ‘Wheelers Trentadue rushed 18 times for 49 yards and on the defensive side he came away with 20.5 tackles, five for a loss of 34 yards. He also added 11.5 sacks for 78 yards, three fumble recoveries, three forced fumbles, and five blocked kicks and three safeties. Trentadue earned Team Ironman of the Year honors as well.

New York Dragons WR/LB Chris Anthony will look to help guide his team to the semi-finals after a 12 receptions for 132 yards, two for touchdown performance in a 48-45 victory over the Chicago Rush and former ‘Wheelers QB Billy Dicken. On the year, Anthony was the second leading receiver for the Dragons, catching 70 passes for 880 yards and 18 touchdowns. Anthony was second on the team in scoring with 112 points on the season. On the defensive side of the ball Anthony recorded 21.0 tackles, two interceptions returned for six yards, two fumble recoveries and a pass break up.

Last season with the ‘Wheelers, the Iowa State grad caught 125 passes for 1,613 yards, 32 going for touchdowns. On the defensive end he had 31.5 tackles, one for a loss, three interceptions returned for 30 yards (one of those for a touchdown), ten pass breakups and a fumble recovery. Anthony was the ‘Wheelers Most Valuable Player for the season.

Last but not least, Fury DS Brent Browner has had an excellent season with Detroit, recording 21.0 tackles, eight pass breakups and one interception that was returned for three yards. Browner did not record any statistics in last week's 55-54 victory over the Grand Rapids Rampage.

Last season with the ‘Wheelers, Browner played in the teams last eight games, but put up outstanding numbers in the short time that he was in the Quad Cities. He had 33 tackles, ten interceptions returned for 100 yards, one for a touchdown, 30 pass breakups and four forced fumbles.

Look to see these guys as well as others hit the turf this weekend on your NBC affiliate all the way up to ArenaBowl XVII.
