af2 Friday Night Matchups

May 29, 2003 - arenafootball2 (af2) News Release

CHARLESTON SWAMP FOXES (3-4) AT GREENSBORO PROWLERS (3-5)
FRIDAY, MAY 30, 2003 - GREENSBORO COLISEUM (8,350) 7:30 P.M. ET

The Charleston Swamp Foxes travel to Greensboro to take on the Prowlers for the first time this season. Charleston has had success against the Prowlers, defeating them four times over the past three seasons with only one loss. Greensboro hopes to bounce back from a heartbreaking loss last week against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in which wide receiver SHANNON GAINEY'S three-touchdown performance wasn't enough for the Prowlers. Three of Charleston's four losses have come on the road, while the Prowlers are 2-1 at home. The Swamp Fox's DEMONT SMITH looks to extend Greensboro's four game losing streak by adding to his league-leading eight interceptions. Overall, the Charleston defense ranks first in af2 allowing only 183.9 yards of total offense each game, and they rank fifth with 38.7 points allowed per game. Greensboro currently sits at the bottom of the American Atlantic division just under the Swamp Foxes. A victory by the Prowlers would move them ahead of the Swamp Foxes, while a win by Charleston could mean a possible tie with the Speed if they were to lose to Wilkes/Barre Scranton. The teams face each other again on July 5.

BOSSIER CITY BATTLE WINGS (3-5) AT MEMPHIS XPLORERS (2-5)
FRIDAY, MAY 30, 2003 - DESOTO CIVIC CENTER (8,444) 8:00 P.M. ET

The Xplorers hope to keep Bossier City winless on the road as the Battle Wings travel to Memphis for the teams' first of two meetings this season. Bossier City has not won a road game since May 17 of the 2002 season, and they have not beaten Memphis at home since the 2001 season. The Xplorers sit at the bottom of the National Central Division just under the Battle Wings. A Memphis victory puts the teams into a tie for third place. While the Xplorers are coming off a bye week, Bossier City hopes to carry its momentum from its thrilling fourth quarter comeback against the Columbus Wardogs last week in which quarterback FRED LEONARD connected with VAL MORRIS for a 19 yard touchdown reception to put the Battle Wings up 34-31 with just fifty-four seconds left in the game. However, Memphis' KEVIN PRENTISS is third in the league in individual scoring with his 20 touchdowns while KEVIN COBB and KEITH SPANN are outstanding defensive specialists with their combined 33 pass breakups and four interceptions. The Xplorers must be aware of Bossier City's CHRIS SAMSON who leads the af2 with 48.0 total tackles. The teams face off again on June 27.
