AFL holds expansion draft for Nashville Kats

September 29, 2004 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Dallas Desperados News Release

The Dallas Desperados and the rest of the Arena Football League participated in the AFL's Expansion Draft this afternoon to help stock the league's newest franchise – the Nashville Kats.

Dallas lost two of its exposed players in the draft – WR/LB Phil McGeoghan and OL/DL R-Kal Truluck. Both players were on Dallas's reserve/exempt roster as they were both with NFL teams last spring – McGeoghan with the N.Y. Jets and Truluck with the Green Bay Packers. Truluck was selected by the Nashville Kats with the ninth pick in the draft. McGeoghan was selected by the Arizona Rattlers, who traded for the 13th pick.

McGeoghan signed with the Desperados as a free agent on Oct. 28, 2003. Because of his role in the NFL, he was with the Jets through the 2003 AFL season.

Truluck was acquired by Dallas in an Oct. 23, 2002 trade that sent former Desperados quarterback Andy Kelly to Detroit. Truluck then signed with the Kansas City Chiefs and spent time on their practice squad and active roster during the 2003 and 2004 AFL seasons.

The AFL kicks off the 2005 season the weekend of Jan. 29-30. The 2005 season will once again consist of 16 regular season games – eight home games and eight road games – and NBC Sports will continue to televise weekly AFL games. The Arena Football League is finalizing the 2005 schedule and should be releasing that information in the coming weeks.
