PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Soul lost two players in the Arena Football League's 2005 Expansion Draft today, as the league welcomed the Nashville Kats for their inaugural season.

The Chicago Rush selected QB Todd Hammel (6-2, 225) with the 3rd overall pick, which they obtained in a trade with the Kats. With the 16th selection, the Grand Rapids Rampage took WR/DB Terrell Adams (5-7, 169). The Rampage obtained the 16th pick in a draft day trade with Nashville. The Soul did not have a pick in the draft.

Hammel, a 13-year-veteran of the AFL, played in nine of the Soul's inaugural season games, completing 143 of 247 passes with 36 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

"We left both of our quarterbacks unprotected knowing we could potentially lose one and then pull back the other," Soul head coach Michael Trigg said. "Todd did a nice job for us last year and he will add veteran leadership in Chicago."

Adams caught six balls for 70 yards for Philadelphia in an injury-riddled rookie campaign. In 2003, he starred for the af2's Memphis Xplorers, where he caught 93 passes for 1,081 yards and 27 scores.

"Terrell is a good young player yet to reach his full potential," Trigg said. "We would have liked to see him continue to develop but unfortunately Grand Rapids selected him."

The Soul had a league-high 16 players eligible for the expansion draft. AFL rules permitted the team to take back one unprotected player from the draft each time a Soul player was selected. The team pulled back QB Tim Levcik (6-5, 238) upon Hammel's departure and OL/DL Dwayne Sabb (6-5, 250) when Adams was selected.

Season tickets for the Philadelphia Soul's sophomore season are on sale now. For more information on season tickets call 1-888-PHIL-AFL. The Soul led the Arena Football League in attendance averaging 16,866 fans per home game, including six sellouts.
