Ending on a High Note...The Aeros closed the regular season with another win, knocking Erie starter Ramon Garcia out of the game in the fourth inning and never trailing in a 9-3, wire-to-wire triumph Monday afternoon at Canal Park. 2B Josh Rodriguez and LF Matt McBride each delivered RBI singles in the first inning to give Akron the lead, CF John Drennen belted the first of his two home runs in the second, and the Aeros put the contest away with five runs in the bottom of the fourth, capped by a two-run homer from C Carlos Santana. LHP Scott Barnes was terrific in his seventh start of the season, allowing just one earned run over six innings and setting a season-high with nine strikeouts. Akron has won eight straight games entering the post-season, the longest winning streak for the club this year.

Made to be Broken...Santana's home run Monday moved him to the top of the franchise record book, as the native of Santo Domingo, DR drove in runs 96 and 97 with one big swing and tied Wes Hodges' single-season franchise record for RBI set just last season. Santana, who was named Eastern League Most Valuable Player last week, led Akron in the three triple crown categories and also set a franchise record with 90 walks on the season, shattering the record of 82 set by Ken Ramos which had stood since 1992. He finished second in the league in home runs (23), RBI (97), on-base percentage (.413), slugging percentage (.530), was third in runs scored (91) and fourth in extra-base hits (55).

Drenn-ched...It's tough to have more momentum heading into the playoffs than Aeros RF John Drennen. The native of San Diego was a one-man wrecking crew at the expense of SeaWolves pitching in the final series of the regular-season, batting .533 (8-15) with a triple, four homers, seven runs scored and five RBI in the four games. Drennen homered in each of the last three games of the series, and the two dingers Monday marked his first multi-homer game since he went deep twice on May 11th, 2007 while playing for Class A Kinston. In 72 games since July 1st, Drennen is batting .296 with seven of his eight home runs and 30 of his 40 RBI.

Need for Speed...Tonight's game will feature the two best base stealers in the Eastern League, as Akron's Jose Constanza edged Reading's Quintin Berry by one bag for the EL stolen base crown. Berry had a seemingly comfortable lead before going into a slump on the base paths, swiping just one base in the final 16 games and finishing with 48 for the year. Constanza, meanwhile, exploded for a whopping 13 steals in the final 14 games to finish at 49 and claim first place. The 49 steals set a new franchise record for the Aeros, as did Constazna's four steals in a game last Friday.

Did You Know...Mahoning Valley can clinch a trip to the New York-Penn League finals with a win over Brooklyn tonight.
