Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Hershey, PA-It was déjà vu all over again for the Milwaukee Admirals as they fell to the Hershey Bears 7-2 in game four of the Calder Cup Finals on Sunday night. Just like the second game of the series, the Admirals fell behind big early, scored a couple goals to make it interesting, but couldn't hold the momentum and ended up falling short.
Former Admiral Kris Beech notched two goals, Tomas Fleishmann added three assists and the line of Beech, Fleischmann, and Graham Mink was a combined +7 to help the Bears even the series at two games apiece.
Hershey took a 1-0 lead at the 5:33 mark of the first period when Jakub Cutta scored his third goal of the playoffs. Hershey forward Brooks Laich gathered a loose puck behind the Milwaukee net and he found a streaking Cutta for the goal.
Beech's first goal of the night would make it 2-0 just 38 seconds later when he scored on a delayed penalty with assists from Fleischmann and Lawrence Nycholat. Following the tally a scrum broke out in the corner which led to Hershey power-play and another Bear goal, this one by Joey Tenute, his first of the playoffs.
Colin Forbes scored Hershey's fourth goal in 3:41 with a wrister from the right side that beat Milwaukee starter Pekka Rinne and made the score 4-0. Admirals coach Claude Noel then replaced Rinne with back-up Brian Finley.
The Ads would finally get on the board Darren Haydar would score on a tight angle that got between Hershey goalie Frederic Cassivi and the post at 3:42 of second. Simon Gamache and Sheldon Brookbank would be credited with assists on the play.
The red-lighter for Haydar was his 17th of the post-season and extended his scoring streak 15 straight games which is second all-time in the AHL behind a 16-game streak by Bill McDougall of Cape Breton's in 1993. The 2003 Rookie of the Year is also second behind McDougall (26) in goals scored in one post-season.
A tripping penalty to the Bears Brooks Laich at 4:30 would put the Ads on the power-play and lead to their second goal and cut the Hershey lead to 4-2. It look as if Rich Peverley would get the goal when he chipped a backhand over the stick of Cassivi, but the puck danced on the goal line until Upshall came and chopped it home.
Beech would take away any of the momentum that Milwaukee had built up when he scored at the 14:15 mark of the second on assists from Mink and Fleischmann and the Bears would take that 5-2 lead into the second intermission.
Any hopes of an Admirals' come back were dashed at 7:29 of the third when Laich picked up a loose puck in front of the Milwaukee goal and beat Finley to the glove side to make it 6-2.
West Bend native Dave Steckel finished the scoring with his tenth goal of the post-season at 11:42 of the final stanza.
The two teams will take to the ice for game five of the series on Tuesday night at 6:00 pm CT in Hershey. Game six will be back at the Bradley Center on Thursday, June 15th at 7:00 pm. Tickets for that game are on sale at all Ticketmaster outlets, the Bradley Center Box Office or by calling (414) 276-3776.
