Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Peoria, IL--Goalie Jeremy Smith stopped 31 shots to lead the Milwaukee Admirals to a 2-1 win at Peoria over the Rivermen Saturday night.
The victory improved Milwaukee's record to 7-2-0-1. It also extended the streak of road games without a regulation loss to 22 regular season contests, already an AHL record. Milwaukee's last regular season loss in regulation time occurred Jan. 13 at Manitoba.
Smith, who entered the game with the best goals against average in the league, stopped 16 shots in the third period for the win. The last 44 seconds found the Admirals one man down with Ryan Thang in the penalty box. The Rivermen also pulled goalie Ben Bishop for a 6-on-4 advantage.
Milwaukee's power play gave the Admirals a 2-1 lead just 67 seconds into the third period. Ryan Ellis passed the puck from the point to the left circle for Juuso Puustinen. Puustinen threaded a pass from there to Kyle Wilson in the right circle for the goal, Wilson's third of the season.
The game started with some fireworks. Before the puck was dropped, Milwaukee's Zack Stortini and Peoria's Anthony Peluso engaged in some stickwork and then were each assessed 10-minute misconducts for unsportsmanlike conduct. Then, just ten seconds into the game, Admirals captain Scott Ford and Peoria's Kyle Hagel dropped the gloves and each received five-minutes for fighting.
The Admirals scored the first goal of the game with some strong work in the corners from Ben Ryan and Michael Latta. Ryan got the puck to Latta who passed to the left point for Ellis. Ellis' slapshot eluded Peoria goalie Ben Bishop for his third goal of the season at 14:09.
The Rivermen tied the game with a power play goal at 13:09 of the second period. Milwaukee's Jani Lajunen tried to clear a Peoria pass to the net but he couldn't control the puck in front of goalie Jeremy Smith. Peoria's Jonathan Cheechoo slapped the bouncing puck into the net for his fourth goal of the season.
The Admirals return home Saturday, Nov. 12 at 7:00 pm against Chicago. All Veterans and active military personnel will receive a free ticket.
