Norfolk Admirals News Release
NORFOLK, VA. - The Norfolk Admirals began their 2016-17 season with a 3-1 loss to the Kalamazoo Wings on Friday.
The game started off with a physical display by both teams, however then with about eight minutes remaining in the opening period, Kalamazoo struck first on an even-strength goal. Forward Kyle Blaney drove deep into the Admirals zone and shifted the puck off to Scott Henegar who put it past Admirals goaltender Eetu Laurikainen to give the Wings a 1-0 lead.
The Wings would later extend their lead in the second period when forward Austin Wuthrich set up defenseman Michael Trebish, who then sent it to Dajon Mingo, who found the back of the net to give the Wings a 2-0 lead heading into second intermission.
Norfolk was held scoreless until Josh Brittain cut the lead in half at the at the nine-minute mark of the 3rd period. Danick Gauthier recorded the only assist on the tally, setting up the newly named captain for a slam dunk. The next few minutes were all Admirals but the Wings would strike with two minutes left thanks to Josh Pitt. Trebish would get his second assist of the night with the cherry on top, thus thrusting the Wings to a 3-1 opening night victory.
