
Adam Riggs called up by Angels

Salt Lake CityâThe Angels announced on Tuesday that infielder Adam Riggs was recalled by the Angels from the Salt Lake Stingers. Riggs, 31, is batting .320 (47/147) and currently leads the Stingers with nine home runs and 47 hits. He leads the Pacific Coast League with 39 runs scored, and ranks third in the league with 22 extra-base hits. Riggs led the 2003 Stingers with 35 doubles, 14 home runs and 82 RBI before he was called up to the Angels on August 14, 2003.
To fill Riggs' spot on Salt Lake's roster, INF Javy Rodriguez was called up from single-A Rancho Cucamonga. Rodriguez, 25, is a Miami native who was selected in the 5th round of the 2002 free agent draft by the Angels. He will make his Triple-A debut on Tuesday afternoon. Rodriguez started the season in double-A Arkansas where he batted .250 (5/20) with one triple and two RBI in five games with the Travelers. He was batting .243 (9/37) with two doubles and three RBI in 13 games for Rancho Cucamonga. Rodriguez played for the University of Miami and was signed by Angels' scout Mike Silvestri.
Another transaction occurred on Monday 5/17. INF Billy Boyer was sent from Salt Lake back to Extended-Spring. Salt Lake's roster now stands at 23, one below the league's maximum of 24.
