
Acosta, Stockman assigned to Richmond

Richmond, VA - The Atlanta Braves have assigned RHPs Manny Acosta and Phil Stockman to the Triple-A Richmond Braves roster. Seven players have now been sent from big league camp to the R-Braves, including RHP Joey Devine, 1B-C Carlos Mendez, OF Gregor Blanco, RHP Jose Ascanio, RHP Anthony Lerew, Acosta and Stockman. In addition C Iker Franco, RHP Kevin Barry, and LHP Matt Harrison have been assigned to minor league camp.
Acosta led the R-Braves in saves last year with 17 after starting the season with Double-A Mississippi. He was picked as Richmond's Most Outstanding Pitcher in 2006. Acosta played in last year's World Baseball Classic with Panama. He appeared in five games this spring with Atlanta.
Stockman, a member of Australia's World Baseball Classic squad last year, began 2006 with Double-A Mississippi, was promoted to Richmond, and made his big league debut with Atlanta. He spent much of the second half of the season on the DL. Stockman had an 0.81 ERA and 41 strikeouts in 33.1 innings in 18 appearances for Richmond last season. Stockman did not appear in a Grapefruit League game this spring.
