Alexandria Aces News Release
Trying to bring a winning attitude with him to Alexandria, Aces manager RC Lichtenstein signed a championship-caliber pitcher Monday in Billy Brian. The former LSU right-hander was a key contributor as a sophomore to the Tigers' 2000 National Championship team.
Brian limited hitters to a .240 batting average in 56 innings of work during the 2000 season, compiling a 6-2 record for coach Skip Bertman's last National Championship team. In Omaha, Brian pitched a scoreless two-thirds of an inning in relief of starter Hunter Gomez during the Tigers' 6-3 victory over Florida State. The win placed the Tigers in the National Championship game versus Stanford.
Last season Brian split time between the Southeastern League and the Yankees single-A affiliate in Greensboro, N.C., after rehabbing an injury sustained his junior season at LSU.
In seven starts for Greensboro, Brian posted a 1-3 record and 4.75 ERA after signing with the Yankees in mid-July.
Season tickets and Bonus Books are available for the 2003 season at the Aces office, located next to Bringhurst Field, or by calling 473-ACES.
The Central Baseball League, preparing for its 10th season of independent baseball, will play a 96-game schedule between May and August 2003.
The 10-member league has teams located in Amarillo, Edinburg, Rio Grande Valley (Harlingen), San Angelo, Robstown and Ft. Worth, Texas; Alexandria and Shreveport, La.; Springfield/Ozark, Mo.; and Jackson, Miss.
