Alexandria Aces News Release
The Alexandria Aces added an experienced pitcher to their starting rotation Tuesday, signing former White Sox-farmhand Kai Freeman. Chicago drafted the right-hander in the 12th-round of the 1998 draft.
Freeman, battling an injury, started last season in extended spring training before advancing to Triple-A in the White Sox chain. He also spent two full seasons in Double-A with the Birmingham Barons of the Southern League.
During his senior season at the University of Minnesota Freeman posted a 5-0 record, splitting time between the rotation and the bullpen.
The Aces have 17 players under contract for the 2003 season, including nine pitchers.
The Central Baseball League, preparing for its 10th season of independent baseball, will play a 96-game schedule between May and August 2003.
The 10-member league has teams located in Amarillo, Edinburg, Rio Grande Valley (Harlingen), San Angelo, Robstown and Ft. Worth, Texas; Alexandria and Shreveport, La.; Springfield/Ozark, Mo.; and Jackson, Miss.
