Reno Aces News Release
RENO, Nev. - The Reno Aces (23-15) were victorious over the Round Rock Express Monday night after scoring 12 runs in the first three innings of game one at Greater Nevada Field. Left-hander Aaron Laffey, who was signed as a free agent and added to Reno's roster hours before the game, debuted with seven innings of work and gave up just two runs on six hits, earning his first win in the Aces 12-3 triumph.
The Aces sent 10 batters to the plate in the first inning, initiated by Ildemaro Vargas, who singled, and Ketel Marte, who knocked his fourth triple of the season down the right-field line to make it a 1-0 ballgame. Following Christian Walker's fielder's choice ground ball, both Jeremy Hazelbaker and Carlos Rivero singled. Then, with two outs, Jack Reinheimer restarted the momentum with a single and was followed by back-to-back home runs by Hank Conger and Kristopher Negr?n to make it a 7-0 contest.
In the Aces second, Reno made it a 10-0 advantage after a Rivero sacrifice fly to score Ketel Marte, who singled, and a first-pitch two-run home run by Zach Borenstein deep to centerfield.
Reno put across their final two runs of the night in the third inning on a double and three singles to give the Aces a dominating 12-0 lead.
After collecting just two hits through the first five innings off of Laffey, the Express found a rhythm, sparked by a leadoff double by Jurickson Profar which led to three singles to bring across two runs.
In the ninth, Round Rock minimized the deficit to nine runs when Travis Snider collected the team's seventh hit of the game with a solo home run off of another Aces newcomer, Ivan Pineyro, who was transferred from Double-A Jackson and activated with the Aces Monday afternoon.
