Aces Power Past Redbirds

Reno, NV. - Reno took down the Memphis Redbirds on Sunday afternoon by a score of 6-4. The offense was led by Socrates Brito and Zach Borenstein who each recorded two hits in the contest. Memphis got into the scoring column in the top half of the first inning against Aces starter Eric Jokisch. Breyvic Valeria got the inning started with a sharp ground ball past second baseman, Kevin Medrano. Tyler O'Neil drove Valeria in with a deep line drive off the center field wall, giving the Redbirds their first lead of the afternoon. Alex Mejia finished off the scoring cycle with a single up the middle to score the speedy O'Neil.

Willians Astudillo sparked the Aces offense in the bottom of the second inning. The catcher, who was slotted in at third base Sunday afternoon, drew a four-pitch walk. Reinheimer skirted a ground ball through the infield to advance Astudillo and put runners on the corners for John Ryan Murphy who was making his Aces debut. Redbirds starter Dakota Hudson spiked a 95-MPH fastball that bounced away from catcher Gabriel Lino allowing Astudillo to score the first Aces run of the ballgame. Murphy then singled to score Reinheimer and tie things up at two.

Reno would tack on two more in the home half of the third inning. Socrates Brito started the inning with a triple to right-center field. Medrano snuck a ball past the third baseman for a double, driving in Brito and giving the Aces their first lead of the afternoon. A Zach Borenstein single plated Medrano and moved the Aces lead to two after three complete.

Both pitching staffs exchanged zeros from the fourth to the seventh inning. Eric Jokisch finished with five innings pitched, four hits and two runs against. His counterpart, Cardinals number nine prospect Dakota Hudson, tossed seven innings of four-run baseball in his Triple-A debut. Louis Coleman, J.J. Hoover, and Eric Davis combined for three innings of relief work. Davis allowed a two-run home run to tie things up at four in the top of the 8th inning.

Reno bounced back from a two run top half with two runs of their own. Borenstein singled on a groundball to center field. Borenstein advanced to second on a wild pitch, and then Astudillo laced a double down the right field line giving Reno a 5-4 lead. After advancing on a groundout, Astudillo was scored by Reinheimer with a sacrifice fly.
