Alexandria Aces News Release
Short on left-handed pitching, Alexandria Aces manager RC Lichtenstein agreed to terms Friday with southpaw Shaun Shiery, who pitched last season in the South Atlantic League for the Charleston Riverdogs.
In 132-plus career innings Shiery only has surrendered three home runs during two pro seasons. As a rookie with Montgomery [All American Association, 2001] he compiled a 6-4 won-loss record and a 3.55 ERA. Shiery also fanned 98 batters in 96 innings that season.
Shiery is the second left-hander to join the pitching staff, following rookie Scott Meyers.
The Central Baseball League, preparing for its 10th season of independent baseball, will play a 96-game schedule between May and August 2003.
The 10-member league has teams located in Amarillo, Edinburg, Rio Grande Valley (Harlingen), San Angelo, Robstown and Ft. Worth, Texas; Alexandria and Shreveport, La.; Springfield/Ozark, Mo.; and Jackson, Miss.
