Alaska Aces News Release
TULSA, OKLAHOMA - Aces goaltender Kevin Carr had 36 saves, Peter Sivak scored his league-leading 21st goal of the season, and Marc-Andre Levesque bagged the game-winning goal in the third period helping Alaska kick off a five game road trip with a 3-2 win over Tulsa at the BOK Center Wednesday.
Carr made a triumphant return to the city in which he had played the previous two ECHL seasons.
No scoring in the first period, as both teams were trying to figure each other out. Alaska had a couple good chances, Tulsa as well, but Oilers goaltender Jamie Phillips was perfect on 12 Aces shots, and Alaska's Kevin Carr knocked away all 11 shots he faced.
Tulsa drew first blood in the second period early as Phil Brewer tipped home a shot from just inside the blueline by Wes Cunningham at 34 seconds. Emerson Clark picked up the secondary assist on Brewer's 7th goal of the season.
Alaska answered at 15:16. After tireless work by Stephen Perfetto to help get the puck to the front of the net, Sivak banged home a rebound of his own shot for his 21st goal of the season, a team and ECHL high. Perfetto and Steve Tarasuk assisted on the goal.
The third period took on a more offensive tone, and it did so with a breakaway, shorthanded goal at 7:54 by the Aces' Justin Breton. He took a pass from Ben Lake and sped into the Tulsa zone, deked Phillips forehand and slid the puck backhand five-hole to give Alaska the lead.
That lead was short lived however, as the Oilers' Danick Gauthier bounced home a rebound of a Samuel Noreau shot at 8:29 to tie the game at 2.
The game-winning shot was taken by Levesque at 9:38. Lake won a clean draw back to Levesque who zipped a wrister on the ice and through Phillips for his first goal of the season.
Alaska's penalty kill was spot-on, denying Tulsa on 5 opportunities.
Carr finished with 36 saves...Phillips 20.
The Aces now head to Kansas City for a two-game series with the Missouri Mavericks Friday and Saturday, December 16 and 17. Game start time is 4:05pm AST each day.
