INDIANAPOLIS - The Indy Fuel, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks and AHL's Rockford IceHogs announced Thursday that defenseman Robin Press has been added to their active roster after being assigned by the IceHogs earlier in the week. Additionally, the Fuel have acquired forward Justin MacDonald from the Kalamazoo Wings in exchange for future considerations. Both players are available to play Thursday as the Fuel visit the Cincinnati Cyclones.
Press, 21, returns for his second stint in North America after making his AHL debut at the end of the 2014-15 season with Rockford. The 6-foot-3, 209-pound blueliner has skated in 11 games this season with Djurgî=A5rdens IF in the SHL (Sweden), tallying one assist. A seventh-round selection of the Blackhawks in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft (No. 211 overall), Press recorded a goal and two assists in 51 games with Djurgî=A5rdens in 2015-16.
In addition to two games with the IceHogs, the native of Uppsala, Sweden notched 50 points (19g, 31a) in 152 total games in the Swedish second division, split between Sî=B6dertî=A4lje SK and Almtuna IS from 2012-2015. Press led all Allsvenskan defensemen in goals scored in 2014-15 with 13.
MacDonald, 26, comes to Indy after spending parts of three seasons in Evansville; with the ECHL IceMen from 2015 to 2016 and most recently with the Thunderbolts in the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL). The 6-foot-1, 201-pound right wing has 12 points (5g, 7a) in 12 games with the Thunderbolts this season, after recording 21 points (8g, 13a) in 35 contests with the IceMen in 2015-16.
On top of 136 career SPHL games played as part of five different teams, the sixth-year pro from Newmarket, Ontario spent parts of two seasons in the Federal Hockey League (FHL), winning the 2015 Commissioner's Cup with the Watertown Wolves. MacDonald tallied a career-high 102 points in 2014-15, leading the league with 44 goals en route to being named the league's MVP.
