Reno Aces News Release
Reno, Nev.- Trent Oeltjen had three of Reno's seven hits, but it was not enough for the Aces, who fell 6-2 to the Salt Lake Bees Thursday night in the opening game of a seven-game homestand.
The Aces fell behind 5-0 after two innings, and never cut the lead to fewer than four runs. Trailing 6-1 in the fourth inning, Oeltjen led off with a triple and scored on a Ruben Gotay RBI double. Gotay became one of 11 Aces stranded on base in the game, as Reno managed only one hit in 16 at-bats with runners in scoring position.
Tony Barnette (4-6) took the loss for Reno, giving up six earned runs while striking out a season-high-tying seven batters. Jose Marte, Doug Slaten and Bobby Korecky each threw a scoreless inning, while allowing no hits and combining to strike out four Bees batters.
Alex Romero and Rusty Ryal each added hits, and Tony Clark contributed a base hit in his first appearance in Reno on a Major League rehab assignment.
Sean O'Sullivan (5-2) picked up the win for Salt Lake, going six innings and allowing only two earned runs. Rafael Rodriguez and Jose Arredondo shutout the Aces the rest of the way.
Friday, Reno hosts Salt Lake in the second game of this four-game set. The Aces will send RHP Seth Etherton (4-4, 5.47 ERA) to the mound to face Salt Lake RHP Brad Knox (4-3, 5.43 ERA). Friday's game will be an Intraform Fireworks Friday presented by KOLO Channel 8. First pitch is set for 7:05 pm.
Starting Monday, the Aces take on intrastate rival Las Vegas a three-game series in the inaugural Silver State Diamond Challenge. The games will be the first-ever games between Reno and Las Vegas.
