Reno Aces News Release
RENO, Nev. - Reno fell behind early and struggled to recover Monday night, as the Iowa Cubs held the Aces to just two runs in as 9-2 loss at Aces Ballpark.
Aces pitching newcomer Brad Wilson threw 59 pitches in 4.0 innings Monday, making his Triple-A debut for the Aces after being transferred to Reno from Extended Spring Training. Wilson gave up three runs, all earned, in his sixth-career professional start, striking out one.
Doug Deeds drove in both of Reno's runs, chasing home Drew Macias in the sixth and Jeff Bailey in the eighth. The Aces had eight hits in the game, as they fell to the I-Cubs for the second time in three games.
Wilson (0-1) was tagged with the loss, striking out one and walking three in his Triple-A debut. Jason Urquidez, Jordan Norberto and Jose Marte combined to surrender six runs over the game's final five frames.
Andrew Cashner (2-0) gave a strong pitching performance, allowing one run and six hits over six innings, earning his second win in his start for Iowa.
Deeds' eighth-inning double was his team-leading 13th of the season. Macias hit two singles, making this his second multi-hit game in the last three games.
The last game of this four-game set is Tuesday afternoon, as Reno sends RHP Kevin Mulvey (0-2, 4.09 ERA) to the mound to face Iowa RHP Thomas Diamond (2-0, 2.17 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 pm at Aces Ballpark.
