
Aces Blow out Grizzlies 6-1

Wes Goldie scored twice to lead five different Aces scorers and Adam Courchaine made 22 saves on 23 shots to lead the Alaska Aces to their second straight lopsided victory over the Utah Grizzlies 6-1 on Saturday night from Sullivan Arena. The Aces extended their winning streak to five games, matching their season high, and also stretched their ECHL-best point streak to 12 games, making it the fourth longest streak in club history. Alaska's record improved to 18-4-2 at the one-third mark of the season. The Aces now welcome the Ontario Reign on Friday, Saturday and Sunday to complete the home stand. Tickets are on sale now. Alaska got off to another strong start, getting the first goal of the game for the 16th time in 24 games this season. Ethan Cox slid a puck underneath Andrew Engelage from the left side of the net at 9:16 to make it 1-0 Alaska. The Aces added to their lead on a power play when Kane Lafranchise found Garry Nunn inthe slot for a redirection goal at 13:05. Alaska outshot Utah 12-6 in the period, and took a two-goal lead into the intermission.
The Aces only got better in the second, starting immediately into the frame. Jacques Lamoureux scored his first pro goal 63 seconds into the period to make it 3-0 and chase Engelage from the game. Shane Owen entered the game in relief. The Aces treated him the same as his predecessor, scoring on their first shot against Owen at 8:13. Nick Mazzolini took a rink-wide feed in the right circle and buried a wrist shot to make it 4-0. Alaska made it 5-0 on a five-on-three power play when Wes Goldie scored from the bottom of the left circle at 18:13. The Aces and Grizzlies each had eight shots in the period, but Alaska took a commanding five-goal lead into the third period.
Utah got very chippy in the third period, and Alaska receivedseveral power plays, and Goldie converted a five-on-three power play from the high slot at 13:20 to make it 6-0. There was a large scrum immediately after the goal, and five different Grizzlies were ejected, including Head Coach Kevin Colley. After a pair of late Aces penalties, Utah had a four-on-three power play and Paul McIlveen scored from the left circle at 18:20 to break Courchaine's shutout bid, and snap Alaska's shutout streak at 158:41. The Aces outscored the Grizzlies a combined 13-2 in the three-game sweep.
Adam Courchaine (4-1-1) earned the win, making 22 saves on 23 shots, and Andrew Engelage (10-8) made 10 saves on 13 shots, taking the loss. Shane Owen made 11 saves on 14 shots and did not figure into the decision. The Aces power play went 3-10, while the Grizzlies went 1-5. Alaska outshot Utah 27-23 in the game.
