Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
BROADCAST:
Tonight's broadcast can be heard online at www.ironbirdsbaseball.com. Matt Martinez and Russell Luna will have the play-by-play. The pre-game show will begin at 6:50 p.m.
TRIPLE THREAT:
The 'Birds recorded a pair of triples in the loss on Thursday. Tom Edwards extended his hit streak to seven games with a triple, going 1-for-4. Lance West also picked up a triple in the third inning, scoring one of the IronBirds two runs. Richard D'Oleo's single extended his hit streak to six games.
FIFTH IN A ROW:
The 'Birds have dropped five games in a row dating back to Sunday June 28. The team will look to get off the snide with a win tonight in the final game of the three-game homestand with Oneonta. These two teams will play again on Saturday with a three-game series at Damaschke Field in Oneonta.
OFFENSE SHUT DOWN:
The Tigers held the 'Birds scoreless for the first time this season on July 1. In two games played in the series, the 'Birsd have been out scored 11-to-2. The game on Wednesday was concluded after seven and a half innings due to heavy rains in the area. Oneonta's 3-0 win was the first time the 'Birds have been shutout since a 4-0 loss to Hudson Valley on July 6, 2008. The Tigers have won four games in a row against Aberdeen, dating back to last season.
BRING ME HOME:
The 'Birds left 14 runners on base as they out hit Oneonta 9-to-6. Aberdeen was 1-for-11 with moving runners in scoring position.
DAVIS, TOWNSEND SPARK OFFENSE:
Blake Davis went 3-for-4 in the lead off position on Wednesday evening to hit .350 in 10 games this season. Tyler Townsend (3rd round draft pick) collected his first professional hit with a single in the fifth inning and added a double in the seventh.
A FRESH LOOK:
The Oneonta Tigers will be the first non-McNamara foe the 'Birds have faced this year. Oneonta (5-4) is currently first place in the NYPL Stedler Division. The 'Birds were swept August 24-26 at Oneonta. Aberdeen's last series win was on July 29-31 when the IronBirds won two out of three.
RIGHT-HANDED TROUBLES:
Aberdeen has only faced 3 right-handed starters in 11 games. However, the 'Birds are 0-3 against right-handers, while 4-4 against lefties.
