Abercrombie Powers Goldeyes to 5-3 Win

GARY, IN- Reggie Abercrombie went 3-4 with three RBI and a home run that hit off the top of the scoreboard to lead the Winnipeg Goldeyes to a 5-3 win over the Gary SouthShore RailCats.

The RailCats (37-33) outhit the Goldeyes (39-29) 12-9 but didn't manage consecutive hits until the 8th inning. With the win, Winnipeg expanded their lead in the Wild Card standing to three games over Gary SouthShore.

Richard Castillo was charged with the loss in his first appearance since July 27th. The right-hander went 5.1 innings and gave up three runs (one earned) on six hits. Castillo walked a season-high four batters and struck out three Goldeyes.

Ethan Carnes earned the win for Winnipeg after pitching six scoreless innings. Carnes also set a season-high with four walks in the game. Eric Eadington recorded a five out save with three strikeouts to close the game.

Abercrombie set the tone to start the game. Maikol Gonzalez was at third base with two down in the top of the 1st inning with Abercrombie at the plate. The former major leaguer hit a looping line drive to center field to give the Goldeyes a 1-0 lead.

The Goldeyes waited until the 6th inning to add to their lead. Adam Heisler led off with a double and Abercrombie reached on an error. They loaded the bases on a Josh Romanski walk and Rohm provided the key hit with a two RBI double.

Abercrombie delivered the knockout punch in the 7th inning. The slugger hit a two-run homer off of the letter 'S' on top of the scoreboard beyond left field. All three of Abercrobie's RBIs came with two outs in an inning.

The RailCats fought back in the 8th but couldn't complete the comeback. The Cats mounted five straight hits to start the frame. EJ Devarie and Jose Gonzalez's singles knocked in Frank Martinez and Alex Crosby. After two pitching changes, Anthony Cheky hit a sacrifice fly that scored Devarie. Chase Harris struck out with the bases loaded to end the inning and the threat.

Five RailCats had multi-hit days but none of them had more than two hits. The RailCats fell to 4-25 when trailing after the 6th inning.
