North Texas Fresh News Release
FORT WORTH - With All - Star Weekend coming up, the NBA and its stars were in Dallas - Fort Worth for the major celebration which will host great players such as Lebron James and Jason Kidd. Jay Bowdy, Owner of the North Texas Fresh was named as one of the special Clinicians for the NBA to help kids in understanding the benefits of staying in shape.
"It's a great experience." stated Bowdy. "To be able to be a part of something that's beneficial to the youth is something that always grabs my attention. I'm just glad to be a part of the NBA system again and even though it's short, it's a great memory to withhold with the kids getting the enjoyment out of it."
Bowdy and the NBA worked with a youth program called NBA Fit, which involved the youth learning different exercises and drills that keeps you in great shape; like some of the professional athletes in attendance.
Even though the program is hosted by the NBA, the WNBA players and the ABA's North Texas Fresh player was in attendance to help out as well. WNBA stars including Washington Mystics guard Alana Beard, Los Angeles Sparks guard Marie Ferdinand-Harris, Connecticut Sun forward Asjha Jones and guard Kara Lawson, Los Angeles Sparks guard Ticha Penicheiro and the ABA's North Texas Fresh center Robert Taylor. Every player participated in the first - ever NBA Fit All - Star Youth Celebration encouraging youth to keep great shape and stories from the different athletes explaining what it takes to make it at their level.
"The kids enjoyed the event," stated Bowdy. "Sometimes it takes people of our stature to teach the youth things that they've been told a million times. Rather it's making good grades in school or being in great shape, we want to make sure we are here to give kids that positive push towards success."
Fans will be able to follow these different stars throughout the week through different editorials, videos, and photos placed on NBA or WNBA.com. The Fresh, will make their public appearance on February 18th as they battle against the Oklahoma Impact at home (W.G. Thomas Coliseum) to try and push to 13 - 3 on the year. The Fresh are in 2nd place in the Divisional Standing.
