A-League's Testo Named to Final Roster for Olympic Qualifying

RICHMOND, VA - (Friday, January 30, 2004) - David Testo, midfielder/forward for the Richmond Kickers, has been named to the final roster for the 2004 CONCACAF Men's Olympic Qualifying Tournament. U.S. Under-23 Men's National Team head coach, Glenn "Mooch" Myernick has chosen a 20-player roster after training in Guadalajara, Mexico for the past week.

The U.S. will begin play in Group A on Tuesday, February 3rd, when the U-23s take on Panama at 8:00pm (local/CT). The U.S. team will then face Canada on Thursday, February 5th at 8:00pm followed by Honduras on Saturday, February 7th at 1:00pm. The three matches will take place at the Estadio Tres de Marzo and can be followed live via ussoccer.com's MatchTracker, presented by Phillips Electronics.

The tournament will begin on February 2nd featuring Group B teams, Costa Rica, Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago and Mexico. The single-elimination semi-finals will start on Tuesday, February 10th when the top two teams of each group will meet at Estadio Jalisco. The winner of Group A will play the second place team of Group B and the winner of Group B will play the second place team of Group A.

Testo will be the lone representative of the A-League and is one of only two non-MLS players on the roster, the second being Zak Whitbread (Liverpool Reserves). The 2003 A-League Rookie of the Year led the U-23s in scoring, along with fellow forward Alecko Eskandarian (D.C. United), who is also featured on the roster. Testo led the U.S. team with eight points (3 goals, 2 assists) last year including 2 goals and 1 assist against St. Kitts and Nevis during the second round of CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying. His performance earned him Chevrolet Man of the Match honors. The U.S. U-23s defeated the Caribbean island nation by an aggregate score of 10-0 in a home-and-home series after receiving a bye in the first round.

The U.S. U-23 Men's National team advanced to a record fourth place finish at the 2000 Sydney Games behind the play of Landon Donovan, John O'Brien and Josh Wolff. All three players have since emerged as forces for the full U.S. Men's National Team, and helped lead the U.S. in the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Korea/Japan, where they came away with a best ever quarter-final finish.
