A Dozen at the Dilla Villa

August 20, 2010 - United League Baseball (ULB)
San Angelo Colts News Release

After losing three of four at home to Edinburg the Colts began Thursday tied for the fourth and final playoffs spot with the WhiteWings with eleven games to go. San Angelo went back to Amarillo for the final road trip of the regular season to begin a four game series with the Dillas. Although the Colts would trail 3-0 early they would storm back for a dozen unanswered runs to win game one, 12-3.

Amarillo struck for solo runs in the first and second innings on a fielder's choice by Stephen Douglas in the first and an RBI double by Joaquin Rodriguez in the second to go up 2-0. Carlos Figuero would then add an RBI double in the fourth to put the Dillas up 3-0. It looked like Amarillo would slowly pull away as the Roadrunners did in the previous series with a lot of one run innings that led to several high scoring victories.

San Angelo began their come back though with two in the top of the sixth on a Jason Landreth RBI single and a fielding error to pull within one, at 3-2. The Colts would follow with a half dozen runs in the top of the seventh on two errors by the Dillas, an RBI double by Jason Crosland, as well as RBI singles by Alex Fernandez and Josh Collazo to make it 8-2. San Angelo would add some insurance in the ninth to seal the deal. Landon Camp drove in the first run with an RBI double. Then Blake Schaffer who had not played a game all year and was filling in for the injured Mark Ramos hit a two-run homer his third hit of the night. Ronnie Gaines then added an RBI single to make it a 12-3 final.

The Colts who were shut down last time by former major leaguer Jermaine Van Buren, hit him hard for seven earned runs over six and one third. Chandler Barnard who was robbed of a win last time out at the Dilla Villa battled for six innings throwing 124 pitches for his seventh win of the season. After going 6-0 out of the bullpen this season, Gorman Romero earned his first save of the year the hard way, going the final three in the Colts victory.

On Friday the Colts play game two of this four game series against the Dillas. San Angelo sends out southpaw Logan Williamson (2-2, 4.16) against righty Ryan Mitchell (5-3, 4.18) for Amarillo. Catch all the action beginning with the Kemps pre-game show beginning at 6:50 with the first pitch set for 7:05 on 1260 KKSA.
