Jaxx beat Braves 12-6 behind eight run eighth

Jackson, Tenn. (April 28, 2009) - Behind an eight run eighth inning, the Diamond Jaxx (9-10) take game four and the series against the Mississippi Braves (9-10) on Tuesday night 12 to 6.

Greg Halman opened the scoring for the Jaxx on Tuesday night, blasting an opposite field homer to right. More from Halman to come.

In the third, Mel Stocker picked up his first Diamond Jaxx hit and advanced to second on a walk by Ezequiel Carrera. The speedy Stocker stole third and scored on a sacrifice fly by Marshall Hubbard.

West Tenn picked up another run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Ezequiel Carrera opened the inning with a walk which was followed by a single from Marshall Hubbard. Adam Moore walked to load the bases. Greg Halman picked up his second RBI in the game with a fielder's choice to third.

The Jaxx took a 4-2 lead into the seventh inning but the Braves would tally three in the inning. Marwin Vega allowed two hits, and then picked up one out and after giving up one run turned over to Mumba Rivera. Braves right fielder, Gorkys Hernandez singled to right scoring two and the Braves took a 5-4 lead.

The Diamond Jaxx had their largest output in a single inning in the eighth. 13 batters came to the plate and Greg Halman would cap the inning off with a grand slam, his second home run of the game and league leading eighth of the season. Halman finished the night with two home runs and six RBI on the night.

Jared Wells (1-0) picks up his first Diamond Jaxx win of the year, dealing a scoreless eigth inning. Steve Marek (1-3) takes the loss for the Braves.

The Jaxx will look to take four out of five from the Braves on Wednesday at 11:05. LHP Danny Christensen makes his Diamond Jaxx debut on Wednesday and will be opposed by RHP Ryne Reynoso (0-1, 4.86).
