Idaho Steelheads News Release
BOISE, Idaho¾ Idaho Steelheads Head Coach Derek Laxdal, looking to add some offense to his team as they make a final push for playoff positioning, today signed rookie Brandon Svendsen to an ECHL contract.
Svendsen, 23, played four seasons at Bowling Green and ended his senior year earlier this month with a 7-1 loss to Ohio State in the second game of their first-round Central Collegiate Hockey Association best-of-three series.
During the 2008-09 season, as Alternate Captain, Svendsen had his best season establishing career highs for points (30, second on the team), goals (12, tied for second on the team) and assists (18, second on the team). Overall, the Minnesota native played 148 career games with 76 points (32g-44a).
In other transactions today, forward Derek Paget was placed on the 7-day Injured Reserve List.
The Steelheads are currently en route to Victoria, British Columbia to play four games in five days against the Salmon Kings. The schedule includes games on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday all beginning at 8:05 pm MT and a 2:05 pm MT puck drop for the final game Sunday.
Hooters in Boise (Franklin and Milwaukee) will host a B2 Game Watch Party for Friday's game. All games can be heard live on ESPN Radio 1350 KTIK the Ticket with "Voice of the Steelheads" Doug Plagens on the call.
Idaho is second, and two points ahead of Victoria, in the West Division standings, and seven points behind top seed Alaska. Idaho has three games in hand on both Victoria and Alaska with 11 games remaining in the season.
More player movement is expected in the coming days.
