Jackals Move Into First Place

Elmira Jackals News Release


Elmira, NY- The Jackals moved into the top spot in the North Division tonight with a 3-2 win over the Trenton Devils at First Arena. Michael Teslak turned away 26 shots while three different Jackals netted goals in the 3-2 win. Elmira host Johnstown for a doubleheader this weekend at First Arena. The face off on Friday and Saturday is set for 7:35 p.m.

Trenton opened the scoring at the 11:59 mark of the first period when Jeff Prough netted his 27th mark of the season. Radoslovich and Eric Castonguay would assist on the play. The Jackals trailed 1-0 and eight to five in the shot category after the first period.

The second period was worth the price of admission for the Elmira fans. Pierre-Luc Faubert netted his 20th goal of the season at the 2:37 mark to tie the game at 1-1. Faubert took a Guillaume Lepine slap shot rebound and tucked it past Trenton goalie Gerald Coleman. Derek Couture also received and assist on the play. The fans would again come to volume at the 8:10 mark when Chaz Johnson fought Myles Shoesz in a heavy weight tilt. Elmira would feed off of the energy of the Johnson fight and a handful of Michael Teslak stops, including a two on zero break a way that he denied. Elmira grabbed the first lead of the game when Brendan Connolly walked through the center slot and snipped Coleman at the 15:05 mark, Derek Couture assisted on the go ahead goal. Elmira held a 2-1 lead heading into the third period.

Elmira continued the scoring in the third period with Steve Yetmans' 24th goal of the season. Nathan Lutz and Chris Korchinski assisted on the give and go play. The Jackals would fight off a hungry Devils club late in the third period until Jeff Prough would finally beat Teslak at the 18:44 mark. After the Devils pulled the game to 3-2, Elmira buckled down to pick up their 34th win of the season.

With the win tonight Elmira moves into first place in the North Division, joining Cincinnati and Wheeling.
