Winnipeg Blue Bombers News Release
WINNIPEG, MB - The Blue Bombers signed Dorian Smith and Keith Saunders today. Both are import defensive linemen.
As per team policy, details of the agreements are not disclosed.
Smith (6-3, 280, Oregon State '08, DOB: August 19, 1985 in Van Nuys, CA) spent three weeks on the practice roster with Winnipeg last season.
Smith was a starter in his final season at Oregon State in 2007. Last year he spent time in the Washington Redskins training camp before being released and coming north to Winnipeg.
Saunders (6-3, 240, Alabama '08, DOB: Dec. 23, 1984 in Willingboro Township, NJ) is a big-bodied defensive end that was a two-year starter with the Crimson Tide.
At Alabama, Saunders registered 33 tackles in his senior year playing the linebacker position. In 2008, he signed with the NFL's Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent before being waived prior to the regular season.
"These two players have impact capabilities. We really want to create pressure of the edge," head coach Mike Kelly said.
"We want to compliment our interior defensive linemen with speed guys of the edge, which is where they fit in."
