Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI - Oldies 93.9 (KMXR) air personality Scott Johnson has been selected as the next Whataburger Field public address announcer, Corpus Christi Hooks General Manager Michael Wood announced Thursday.
Johnson officially begins his duties this weekend at the Sam Houston State vs. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Southland Conference baseball series. The Hooks get under way on Sunday, March 30 against sister club Round Rock before opening the 2008 regular season April 3 vs. Tulsa.
"I'm stoked," Johnson said, "for a variety of reasons. Yeah, I'd say stoked covers it."
The 45-year-old Johnson, who first came to Corpus Christi as a Navy electronics technician in 1986, hosts the Oldies afternoon show. He's worked for KMXR the last 15 years and began in the radio business at age 19.
"It's an exciting opportunity and I look forward to being out there every home game," Johnson said. "I've been to a number of games through the years and have always had a fantastic time."
"We look forward to having Scott at Whataburger Field for many seasons to come," Wood said. "His God-given ability, enthusiasm and experience make him the right person to assume a critical role in our operation."
"Scott Johnson is terrific," ClearChannel Radio Vice President/Market Manager John Richards added. "He is part of our Engineering Department as well as on Oldies 93.9 weekday afternoons. It's great to hear he will be handling PA during the Hooks games. We appreciate Hooks management recognizing the same qualities in Scott that we do."
Johnson succeeds Clint Musslewhite, new voice of The Dell Diamond in Round Rock.
