Baltimore Blast News Release

Baltimore, MD - The Baltimore Blast announced today that former players Joey Fink and Dave MacWilliams will be inducted into the Baltimore Blast Hall of Fame on Saturday, January 21. Original Blast Head Coach Kenny Cooper, former players Stan Stamenkovic, Mike Stankovic, Tim Wittman and Bruce Savage are already in Hall of Fame, along with original MISL Commissioner Earl Foreman. Fink and MacWilliams will be honored in a ceremony during halftime of the Blast game against the Chicago Storm on the 21.

"I am pleased to announce the upcoming induction of Joey Fink and Dave MacWilliams into the Baltimore Blast Hall of Fame," said Blast Owner Ed Hale. "Joey and Dave played before I owned the team but I've heard nothing but good things about them as players and members of the Baltimore community. We created the Hall of Fame with the intention of honoring players like Joey and Dave and I welcome them as the newest members."

Fink and MacWilliams, teammates on the 1983-84 Baltimore Blast championship team and 1980-90 All-Decade Team, will take part in the festivities on January 21. Fink currently works for Raymond James Brokerage Firm and lives in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. MacWilliams resides in Philadelphia and is the head coach of the Men's Soccer Team at Temple University.

Joey Fink:

A member of 1983-84 Baltimore Blast MISL Championship Team and the Baltimore Blast 1980-1990 All-Decade Team, Fink is tied to rank seventh on the original Blast's all-time scoring list (with MacWilliams) with 200 points. He made All Star appearances in 1981 and 1982 and was named Second-Team All-MISL in 1978-79 (while playing for the Philadelphia Fever) and in 1981-82 (Baltimore Blast). Fink was the first player in Blast history to score 50 goals in one season; his 51 goals in the 1981-82 season is a franchise record for most goals in one season. He also holds franchise records for most goals in one game (seven on 1/29/82) and most points in one game (eight, 1/29/82). He ranks third on the original Blast's playoff scoring list with 53 points and holds postseason franchise records for most goals (four) in a single quarter and most points (five) in one quarter (in the Championship Final, 6/8/84 vs. St. Louis).

"The early years of the Blast franchise was a special time for me filled with lots of great friendships, memories, and success," Fink said. "I am very honored to be considered for induction into the hall of fame."

Dave MacWilliams:

Like Fink, MacWilliams was a member of 1983-84 Baltimore Blast MISL Championship team and the Baltimore Blast 1980-1990 All-Decade Team. He and Fink are tied to rank seventh on the original Blast's all-time scoring list (200 points) and MacWilliams also ranks first on the original Blast's postseason all-time scoring list (73 points). He holds franchise records with 47 postseason games played and for most consecutive postseason games played (41).

"This is an unbelievable honor, particularly with the players who are already in the Hall of Fame," MacWilliams said. "I was very fortunate to play with great players in a great city. I am honored to be going into the Baltimore Blast Hall of Fame."

In other Blast news, the team recently announced that former player Tarik Walker has taken over as assistant coach. Walker replaces Max Thompson who has decided to return to England for personal reasons. Walker, an 11-year veteran of professional indoor soccer, ranks second on the team's all-time scoring list with 556 points in 321 games. The Blast will play the rest of the season without forward Denison Cabral. Cabral, a five-time League All Star and Baltimore's all-time leading scorer, will undergo surgery in the near future to repair the torn ACL in his left knee. He was hurt in the fourth quarter of Baltimore's 8-2 win over the Philadelphia KiXX on December 30th. Cabral tore the ACL in his right knee last season and missed the majority of the 2004-05 season as well. He had 11 points in eight games this season prior to the injury.

The Blast (5-3, third in the MISL), will play a home-and-home series with the Milwaukee Wave this weekend, beginning tonight in Milwaukee and ending tomorrow night in Baltimore at 7:35 p.m. The Blast has next weekend off and will return to 1st Mariner Arena for Hall of Fame night on Saturday, January 21. Single-game tickets cost $20 and $17 and are on sale at the 1st Mariner Arena Box Office, by calling TicketMaster at 410-547-SEAT or online at www.ticketmaster.com.
