St. Louis Steamers News Release

ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Steamers hit the road this weekend to try and move closer to first place when they take on the Philadelphia KiXX in the Wachovia Spectrum in Philadelphia on Saturday, January 7th at 6:05 pm (CST). They then hop over to Chicago to play the Chicago Storm on Sunday at 4:00 pm at the UIC Pavilion on the campus of University of Illinois - Chicago.

The current six game winning streak the Steamers are on includes two victories on the road. The first was in Chicago on Dec. 18th when the Steamers won 7-4 and the last was against the California Cougars on Dec. 22nd in a 6-5 victory.

The Steamers last played Philadelphia at home in their home opener on November 26th. That was the first win on the season for St. Louis with a final of 8-4. Goalkeeper, Brett Phillips, scored a goal and added an assist in the game which helped earn him the MISL Goalkeeper of the Week award on Nov. 28th.

The Steamers have faced the Storm twice already defeating them both times. After a four game losing streak, Chicago won their last outing on New Year's Day over the California Cougars, 9-7. The Steamers have taken down the Storm in scores of 7-4 and 8-4. In the most recent contest on Dec. 29th, midfielder Jamar Beasley scored two goals and had two assists in helping defeat the Storm (3-6).

The Steamers currently trail the league leading Milwaukee Wave by a game and a half. The Wave have a home and home series against the Baltimore Blast this weekend. Two more wins by St. Louis would extend their winning streak and distance themselves from the rest of the MISL.

The Steamers next home game is on Tuesday, January 24th against Baltimore in the Savvis Center at 7:35 pm.
