Milwaukee Wave News Release
MILWAUKEE, WI - Milwaukee's winning streak to start the season is over after the Baltimore Blast jumped out to an early lead and continued to put the pressure on the Wave throughout the game. After losing tonight's contest, the Wave stand at 8-1 on the season with a rematch at Baltimore Saturday night.
The Blast didn't waste time getting out to a two-goal lead. Jonathan Steele scored 1:55 in and Machel Millwood followed with a goal 43 seconds later. The Wave rallied with goals by Greg Howes and Giuliano Oliviero to knot the score at two, but David Bascome gave Baltimore the lead for good at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter the Wave were again outscored by one goal and faced a halftime deficit for just the second game this season. Giuliano Celenza did the damage for the Blast, scoring two goals to Marcelo Fontana's score for Milwaukee.
After Baltimore outscored the Wave 2-0 in the third quarter, the Wave put together a fourth quarter rally. Following a two minute penalty to Giuliano Celenza for holding, Lee Tschantret was ejected for violent conduct and put the Blast two men down. Troy Dusosky got the Wave back into the game with consecutive power play scores, cutting the Baltimore lead to two with 4:49 remaining. The Wave had momentum until Celenza scored his fourth goal of the night to make the score 8-5. Celenza has scored seven goals in two games against the Wave this season.
The Wave will look to bounce back from the loss with a rematch against the Blast in Baltimore on Saturday night. It's the second of three games between the teams this month, with another game to be played on January 29 in Milwaukee.
The Milwaukee Wave was established in 1984 as one of six charter members of the American Indoor Soccer Association (AISA). In 2001, the Wave transitioned to being a successful member of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL).
