Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
July 24, 2005 - The IronBirds (12-20) snapped their losing ways on Sunday night, as they topped Mahoning Valley (18-15) and avoided the sweep, 6-2. Newcomer Bobby Andrews set the tone early, as he laced a single up the middle leading off, stole second and motored home on a bases clearing double by Ryan Finan.
IronBirds starting pitcher Radhames Liz got things started as he sat down the Scrappers in order in the top of the first inning. The game would remain 3-0 in favor of the IronBirds through three innings, when Andrews doubled to center field scoring Rob Marconi and Kyle Dahlberg, who reached on a single.
Liz would continue to shut down the Scrappers as he collected a total of eight strikeouts in five innings while giving up no runs. Liz's effort increased his streak to 18 consecutive scoreless innings, spanning 3 starts.
Nolan Reimold added to the IronBirds run tally by launching a home run over the left field fence onto the visitor's club house. The home run was historical, as Reimold set a new team record for home runs in a season (6) with his blast.
The IronBirds will be back in action tomorrow night against Oneonta at 7:05, when Garrett Olson gets the ball.
