Bobby Rhine Leads Burn To 4-1 Victory Over Rapids

DALLAS - Dallas Burn forward Bobby Rhine tallied the third hat trick in team history and added an assist as the Burn defeated the Colorado Rapids 4-1 tonight at the Cotton Bowl. Rhine's seven points tied the Burn record for points in a game, set by Jason Kreis on March 20, 1999. With the victory, the Burn improved to 4-2-5 for 17 points and extended their unbeaten streak to four games.

The Burn got on the board in just the fourth minute of the match following a great through ball from Antonio Martinez. From his own half of the field, Martinez sent a 30-yard through ball, splitting a pair of defenders and springing Bobby Rhine down the middle of the pitch. Rhine, shielding Rapids defender Rick Titus off of the ball, dribbled into the box before slotting the ball into the lower right corner of the goal. The Burn doubled their lead in the 17th minute with Rhine tallying his second goal of the evening. Oscar Pareja stole the ball in the midfield and fed Rhine in the middle of the field about 40 yards from goal. Rhine took a few touches before unleashing a right-footed rocket from 30 yards out that Rapids 'keeper Scott Garlick was able to get his fingertips on but unable to stop from finding the upper left corner of the goal.

Dallas took their first three-goal lead of the season in the 35th minute with Rhine and Martinez again figuring in the scoring as Martinez fed Rhine down the left flank. Rhine dropped a perfect cross over the defense to an onrushing Jason Kreis. Kreis volleyed a left-footer into the left corner of the goal for a 3-0 lead at the half.

A clinical give and go between Rhine and teammate Joselito Vaca worked to perfection in the 73rd minute, giving Rhine the hat trick and a 4-0 lead for his team. Played into the right side of the penalty box on a pass from Rhine, Vaca lost defender Ritchie Kotschau with a cut-back move and easily picked out the University of Connecticut product in front of the net for his third goal of the night.

Colorado did manage to break up Jordan's bid for the shutout in stoppage time, when Chung pounded a wicked left-footed shot into the net from 22-yards out only seconds before time expired.

The Burn travels to Chicago on Saturday, June 15 to face the Fire at 7:30 p.m. in a game that will be televised on Fox Sports Net Southwest.
