8-Run Inning Lifts Dragons to Win and 4-Game Sweep

Dayton, Ohio-The Dayton Dragons exploded for eight runs in the third inning and went on to defeat the Lake County Captains 11-5 on Tuesday night before a crowd of 8,230 at Fifth Third Field. The win gave the Dragons a sweep of the four game series.

Josh Garton led a 14-hit Dragons attack, reaching base four times with two doubles, a single, a walk, and two runs scored. Dominic D'Anna drove in four runs, going 2 for 4 with a walk. Alex Oliveras belted a three-run home run. Didi Gregorius also collected three hits.

With the score tied 2-2 in the bottom of the third inning, Gregorius led off the inning with a hit to right field. Cameron Satterwhite walked, and Mark Fleury followed by doubling to right to drive in Gregorius and give Dayton a 3-2 lead. Frank Pfister was hit by a pitch, and Garton doubled to right to bring in Satterwhite and Fleury to make it 5-2. D'Anna followed with a single up the middle to drive in Pfister and Garton to make it 7-2. One batter later, Kevyn Feiner singled to left, and Oliveras followed with a three-run home run to right to give Dayton a 10-2 lead. It was the fourth home run of the year for Oliveras.

After Lake County scored three times in the top of the fifth, Dayton closed out the scoring with a run in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by Fleury.

Dragons starting pitcher Tim Crabbe earned the win to improve to 3-6. He worked the first five innings, allowing seven hits and five runs (three earned) with one walk and five strikeouts.

Dayton relievers Josh Smith and Daniel Renken each worked two scoreless innings to close out the Dragons win.

The Dragons have won four straight games for the first time since July 6-9. They have won four straight home games for the first time since April 30-May 12.

The Dragons scored 32 runs in the four-game series. They have scored at least 10 runs in three of their last eight games.

The Dragons (16-40, 46-79) play at South Bend on Wednesday against the Silver Hawks (25-31, 55-69) in the first game of a three-game series and the start of a seven-game road trip. Wednesday's game will start at 6:30 p.m. Daniel Corcino (1-0, 1.08) will start for Dayton against Adam Worthington (4-5, 4.93).
