8-8 Penalty Kill Not Enough for Americans
January 10, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Allen Americans News Release
ALLEN, Texas- In a battle between two of the CHL's top teams, the Allen Americans fell to the Rapid City Rush 4-2 tonight at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Arena in Rapid City, South Dakota.
The Rush jumped out to an early lead 4:22 into regulation when a bad bounce left Allen netminder Scott Campbell out of position and the net unoccupied for Rush forward Scott Wray, who quickly fired the puck into the empty net.
Wray found the back of the net again and made it 2-0 2:08 later with a wraparound goal that was assisted by Josh Beaulieu and Ryan Menei. Kevin Harvey's tally 0:16 later extended Rapid City's lead to 3-0 and ended the night for Scott Campbell, who was replaced by Adrien LeMay after allowing three goals on eight shots.
The Rush's early dominance continued with a goal from Konrad Reeder 7:31 into the period, which put Rapid City ahead 4-0.
Jarret Lukin got the Americans on the board and cut the Rush's lead to 4-1 with a shorthanded goal with 8:43 remaining in the opening period. Rapid City netminder Danny Battochio made the initial save on the play but Lukin was able to get his stick on the rebound and wrist the puck into the back of the net.
Dave Bonk scored the second period's lone goal 10:42 into the middle frame after picking up the rebound from Lukin's shot and firing it past Battochio. The goal was Bonk's thirteenth tally of the season and thirteenth point in his last six games.
The Americans fought hard in the third period but were unable to inch any closer as Battochio remained strong in net.
Despite the loss, Allen's penalty kill was stellar on the night stopping all eight Rapid City power plays.
The Americans fall to 24-7-1 with the loss but continue to lead the Berry Conference and the Central Hockey League with 49 points.
Allen will now return home for a set of games at the Allen Event Center next weekend. The Americans will take on the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs on Friday night at 7:30 PM, followed by a meeting with the Laredo Bucks on Saturday night at 7:00 PM. The Americans will then close-out their weekend schedule on Monday afternoon with a battle against the Arizona Sundogs at 1:00 PM. Tickets are available for all three games by calling 972-912-1000 or by visiting www.allenamericans.com.
