Erie Otters News Release
Erie, Pennsylvania - Following a dramatic overtime victory on home ice on Saturday night, the Erie Otters returned to action on Sunday afternoon once again against the Kitchener Rangers, looking to jump into a playoff position. With the Kids taking over the operations in and around the arena, an afternoon of fun would be promised for all. This would be the fifth meeting of the season between Erie and Kitchener, with the Otters leading the season-series 3-1.
For the second night in a row, scoring would be started by 70s line, as Colby Saganiuk (14) would grab his second in as many games to make it 1-0 Erie just 3:33 into the game. Noah Sedore and Connor Lockhart would grab the assists. The Otters would dominate the shot total in the first period, and control much of the pace of play as they would outshoot Kitchener 13-3, and take a 1-0 lead after the opening 20 of play.
An explosion of goals would lead the way in the second period, started just :56 into the frame by Connor Lockhart (21) on the power play to give Erie a 2-0 lead. :44 later, the Otters would go ahead 3-0 as Noah Sedore (17) would grab his second in as many games. Kitchener would finally get on the board 7:14 later, as Mike Petizian (33) would grab his second of the weekend to make it 3-1. Erie would retake a three-goal lead minutes later as Brett Bressette (18) would add the insurance to make it 4-1. Scoring would end in the second period - and for the Kitchener Rangers - as Franceso Pinelli (21) would make it a two-goal game headed into the final frame. Erie would lead in shots 22-9 and lead in goals by a pair.
Erie would put things away in the third period early on, as Connor Lockhart (22) would grab his second of the night just :34 into the frame. A high-shooting period would see Erie lead in shots 15-12, with Captain Brendan Sellan (19) putting the game on ice just past the halfway mark of the third to make it a 6-2 game. Erie would dominate the game enroute to the win, outshooting the Rangers 37-21 and sweeping the weekend series.
With the victory, Erie jumped into the final playoff spot in the OHL West for now, as Sarnia's game in the Soo was postponed. The Otters close out their six-game homestand on Thursday evening, taking on the Sarnia Sting for a battle for 8th place. The team then takes its final road trip of the season to Flint on Saturday night to close the series with the Firebirds.
