Ottawa 67's News Release
OTTAWA - The Ottawa 67's announced, today, that they have hired Paul Stoykewych as Assistant Coach ahead of the 2023-24 Ontario Hockey League season.
"Paul is personable, and detail-oriented. Over the course of his time in hockey, Paul has acquired skills, and experiences that will be of great benefit to our players and staff," said 67's General Manager James Boyd. "We are excited to welcome him to the Ottawa 67's."
Stoykewych, 28, has spent the last two seasons as an Assistant Coach with the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees men's hockey program, overseeing the team's defencemen, and also assisting with player development, recruitment, community outreach, and the program's hockey camps.
A native of Winnipeg, Stoykewych arrived in the nation's capital following a stint at Manitoba's RINK Training Centre, where he served as a skills development coach, and program coordinator, after spending the 2019-20 season with the Western Mustangs as an Assistant Coach.
As a player, Stoykewyich suited up with the Western Michigan University Broncos from 2014-2018, scoring 23 points over his 82-game NCAA career. He represented Canada Western at the 2012 World U-17 Hockey Challenge, and Canada West at the World Junior A Challenge in 2012, and 2013.
"I am honoured and humbled to be joining such a historic franchise in the 67's; and working with Dave Cameron, Norm Milley, James Boyd, and their talented group of players and staff," said Stoykewych. "I am looking forward to the opportunity to develop, teach, and fully engage within the organization to help bring a championship back to Ottawa."
Stoykewych fills the vacancy left by former Assistant Coach Martin Dagenais, who accepted a head coaching job with the QMJHL's Rouyn-Noranda Huskies earlier this summer, after two seasons with the Barber Poles.
