Belleville Bulls News Release

OTTAWA, ON - The fifth of eight meetings between the Belleville Bulls and the Ottawa 67's went down at TD Place in our Nation's Capital on Friday night. Just four points separate the two Eastern Conference rivals heading into the contest. The 67's took care of business on home ice finding the back of the net early in the second period on route to a 2-0 victory.

The Bulls were without their Captain Brett Welychka and veteran Forward Niki Petti who are both listed as week-to-week with injuries. Defencemen Jordan Subban and Adam Bignell were also out of the lineup due to illness.

A scoreless first frame saw shooters from both clubs put a number of chances on a pair of rookie goaltenders in Connor Hicks and Leo Lazarev. Belleville enjoyed their first power play of the game when Jeremiah Addison brought down Brett Gustavsen and sat 2 minutes for interference. Hicks made a big save on a shorthanded two on one to keep the game scoreless half way through the period.

The 67's had their chance on the man advantage not long after as Jack Hanley got caught holding. Hicks kept the door shut and the Bulls had no troubles killing off the penalty. Ottawa led 11-10 in shots after 20 mintues.

Ottawa opened the scoring in the middle frame when Alex Lintuniemi finished off a great centering pass from Dante Salituro just over 4 minutes into the period. Addison was credited with the other assist.

In the dying minutes of the period Evan de Haan was called for cross checking, handing the Bulls their third power play of the contest. Half way through the man advantage, 67's forward Trent Mallette broke in shorthanded but couldn't beat Hicks. The 67's continued to lead in shots 28-18 when the second period came to an end.

The Bulls opened the final frame with 23 seconds left in the de Hann penalty but couldn't capitalize with the extra attacker. Ottawa put the game away late in the period when over age forward and Ottawa native Curtis Meighan buried a juicy rebound on the doorstep for his 4th of the year. Lintuniemi and Addison picked up helpers on the game's final goal.

With the loss the Bulls fall to 19-19-3-3. Hicks, who was awarded the games third star, made 32 saves. Lazarev recorded his 2nd shutout of the season and made 23 saves helping Ottawa earn their 4th straight win.
