66ers Win 10th Straight Game

Rio Rancho, NM - After trailing for most of the game the Tulsa 66ers (16-6) used a late fourth quarter run to beat the New Mexico Thunderbirds (11-12) by a score of 100-95 and extend their winning streak to 10 consecutive games.

Led by Dar Tucker and Josh Bostic the Thunderbirds raced out to an early lead in the first quarter. With the T-Birds holding a small 17-14 advantage the Thunderbirds went on a 15-3 run to close the quarter and take a 32-17 lead after one. Tucker led all scorers with 10 points and Bostic had eight points.

The 66ers quickly closed the gap scoring the first 10 points of the second quarter to make the score 32-27. The T-Birds answered by going on a 10-0 run of their own to open the lead back up to 15 points. Tulsa would close the score to 50-43 at the half.

In the third quarter, the T-Birds extended the lead as high as 13 points with 4:13 to go in the quarter. Tulsa then closed the quarter on a 15-4 run to trim the Thunderbirds lead to 73-71 heading into the fourth quarter. Tweety Carter led the way for the 66ers with 15 points in the third quarter.

The T-Birds still held a four point lead with 9:17 to go, but then Tulsa went on a 13-3 run to take their first lead of the game and make the score 90-84. The Thunderbirds quickly responded going on an 11-2 run to take a 95-92 lead. Tulsa then scored the next six points of the game to take back the lead for good.

All five Thunderbirds starters scored in double figures led by Tucker who finished with a game high 27.

The Thunderbirds will begin a five-game road trip on Thursday when they take on Sioux Falls at 6:00 p.m.
