Inland Empire 66ers News Release

LANCASTER, Calif. - For the second night in a row, the 66ers were held scoreless. Leandro Cespedes and the Lancaster bullpen shutout Inland Empire while the JetHawks struck for four runs in the seventh for a 4-0 win Friday night.

The JetHawks got their offense going in the seventh inning with leadoff hitter Matt Weston's single to right field and a walk to Koby Clemens. Zach Schreiber came in to pitch for the 66ers, but a costly throwing error past third base by Schreiber on a bunt from David Flores allowed both Weston and Clemens to score the first runs of the game.

With Flores at third, Lancaster's Jordan Comadena singled to right field to make it a 3-0 JetHawks. Comadena went to second on a wild pitch, then third on Ronnie Ramirez's fly out to right field, and eventually scoring on a Jack Shuck single to center field.

Cespedes, who came one out shy of pitching a complete game against the 66ers Sunday in San Bernardino, was at his best with runners on base as he scattered 5 hits and 4 walks with 4 strikeouts in 6 innings. He stranded the bases loaded in the fifth and left eight runners in his six frames.

Inland Empire went 0-for-11 with runners in scoring position while stranding 12 runners.

66ers starter Mario Alvarez was strong for five scoreless innings, limiting the JetHawks to just 2 hits and 2 walks while fanning six. The righthander retired the final eight batters he faced before exiting after the fifth.

In his California League debut, Ashton Mowdy (1-0) picked up the win despite allowing a hit and a walk in a scoreless inning of relief.

The 66ers were shutout for the fourth time this season. It is the first time Inland Empire has been held without a run in consecutive games since before 2005.

The 66ers out-hit Lancaster 9 to 6 with Alex Garabedian and Christian Lara having two hits apiece.

The 66ers and JetHawks resume hostilities at 7 p.m Saturday with RHP Josh Wall (1-4, 5.37) taking the mound for Inland Empire and RHP Phil Rummel (1-4, 7.15) taking the ball for Lancaster.

The Sixers return to Arrowhead Credit Union Park on Wednesday, July 15 for a four-game series against the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes at 7:05 p.m. Tickets for all future 66ers games are available at www.66ers.com or by visiting the 66ers ticket office at 280 South E Street in San Bernardino.
