Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA - Inland Empire starter Aaron Miller was dominating over seven strong innings, as the Inland Empire 66ers knocked off the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on Saturday night, winning 6-3 in front of 5,672, the largest crowd at The Epicenter this season.
Miller (2-4) allowed a single to Gabe Jacobo in the fourth and a solo homer to Tyson Auer in the sixth, as he gave up just the one run and two total hits in seven innings. The left-hander fanned eight hitters and walked just one, in earning his second win of the year.
Inland Empire got to Quakes' starter Matt Shoemaker (5-5) for two in the third, two in the fourth and one more in the fifth, taking a 5-0 lead. Alfredo Silverio's two-run homer put the 66ers ahead to stay in the third, as his second homer of the series made it a 2-0 game.
Auer's third homer of the year put the Quakes on the board, making it 5-1.
Inland Empire got that run back in the eighth though, scoring a run against new Quakes' reliever Jeremy Berg, as Johan Garcia singled home a run to give the 66ers a 6-1 advantage.
The Quakes made things interesting in the ninth against 66ers' reliever Javier Solano, as Auer got the rally started with a single. Alexi Amarista followed with an RBI double, chasing home Auer to make it 6-2. Jacobo's infield single plated Amarista, as the Quakes pulled to within three at 6-3. Solano settled down with the tying run in the on-deck circle though, getting Luis Jimenez to fly out to left and punching out Angel Castillo to end the game.
The Quakes enter the All-Star Break with one of the best marks in club history at 39-31. After the break, the Quakes return to action on Thursday, June 24th, taking on the Lake Elsinore Storm at the Diamond in Lake Elsinore.
On behalf of everyone with the Quakes, we'd like to wish Tyson Auer and Alexi Amarista the very best, as they represent Rancho Cucamonga in Tuesday's California/Carolina League All-Star Game in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Right-hander Tyler Chatwood will forego his All-Star opportunity, as he was promoted to Double-A Arkansas after Friday's game.
The Quakes would also like to thank all the fans and partners for a great first half. Your Quakes return to The Epicenter for a six-game home stand, starting on Monday, June 28th, as they take on the High Desert Mavericks and the Lake Elsinore Storm. Don't forget about the July 3rd Independence Day Fireworks Celebration, as we celebrate a day early at The Epicenter. Tickets are on sale by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. Thanks for a great first half...we hope to see you at The Epicenter very soon....GO Quakes!
