Inland Empire 66ers News Release

The Inland Empire 66ers (66-74, 35-35) 2012 season came to a close with a 5-2 loss at the Lake Elsinore Storm (69-71, 33-36). The win propelled the Storm into the playoffs as the final wild card team in the south after knocking the 66ers out of contention the evening prior.

Inland Empire came to work on Labor Day in Lake Elsinore scoring in the very first half inning. Rolando Gomez belted a triple that was cashed in on a Kaleb Cowart sac fly RBI. The duo repeated the process in the 3rd when Gomez tripled with two out in the inning and saw his extra-base hit followed by a Cowart RBI single.

But the day would not end the 66ers way as California League All Star Tommy Medica hit a two run home run to put the Storm up 3-2, and catcher Robert Kral's solo shot later in the contest cemented the Storm victory and post season position.

Randal Grichuk did chip in with a pair of hits to bring his season total to 160, the seventh most in a single season in franchise history. He also made his mark on the 66ers record book for triples in a season, and infielder Taylor Lindsey joined him on the hits list with 158 (tied for 8th) in his 2012 season.

When all was said and done several individual 66ers had spectacular seasons, headlined by the 123 RBI of C.J. Cron which led the league and matched the franchise single season record. But as a team the 66ers fell three games short of the final playoff position.

The 66ers will be back for the 2013 season next April with another great crop of High-A Halos and another outstanding promotional schedule at San Manuel Stadium. Season tickets are already being sold. For more information contact the 66ers box office at 909-888-9922.
