Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Bakersfield, CA - The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes dropped their third consecutive game to end the regular season, then less than an hour later, were eliminated from post-season contention by Lake Elsinore's victory over Inland Empire.

The Bakersfield Blaze withstood a Quakes' ninth-inning rally, as Rancho Cucamonga left the tying runs on base in a 7-4 loss at Sam Lynn Ballpark on Monday afternoon.

Trailing 7-1 in the ninth, the Quakes got a lead-off homer from Pedro Baez, then capitalized on two Blaze errors to push two more runs across, making it 7-4. Closer Carlos Contreras walked Austin Gallagher to load the bases, bringing the go-ahead run to the plate.

The Blaze would go to the bullpen again, calling on Michael Dennhardt to face Angelo Songco. Dennhardt threw just one pitch, getting Songco to ground into a force-out to short, ending the game.

Quakes' starter Onelki Garcia shined in his professional debut, striking out four of the six batters he faced over two perfect innings.

The Blaze jumped on Angel Sanchez (6-12) though, who came on for Garcia in the third. Sanchez surrendered a run in the third, then two more in the fifth, as the Blaze broke a 1-1 tie and took the lead for good at 3-1.

Blaze starter Tim Crabbe (5-2) earned the win, allowing just one run over five innings.

Pratt Maynard enjoyed his first multi-hit game of the year in the loss, finishing 3-for-4 with two RBIs.

Although the Quakes (68-72) failed to make it to the post-season for a fourth straight year, the 2012 season was certainly an exciting one. All of us with the Quakes would like to thank all of the 160,000+ fans that visited The Epicenter over the course of the 70-game home schedule this season. Thank you to our Season Ticket Holders, our Group Leaders, the Quakes Booster Club, our game-day and our full-time staff, and of course to all the Quakes' players and coaches who grinded out a 140-game season. THANK YOU for a memorable 2012 season. We hope to see you at The Epicenter in 2013...GO Quakes!
