Tulsa 66ers News Release
TULSA, Okla., December 1, 2005 -Ersan Ilyasova scored 16 points and grabbed 15 rebounds as Sean Banks added another 16 points for Tulsa to snap a three-game losing streak, defeating Fayetteville 91-85 in Tulsa, Thursday night.
Fayetteville's starting guard, Mike King, scored 7 first-quarter points on his way to a game-high 19 as Fayetteville jumped out to a 32-19 lead on Tulsa.
Fayetteville grabbed their largest lead with 7:13 remaining in the first half following a layup by Patriot guard, Mark Karcher, to put the score at 41-25. But, it was all Tulsa from that point on as Tulsa turned up the defensive pressure.
"We played much better on defense," said head coach Joey Meyer about his team's second half turnaround. "We still turnover the ball too much, but we played better as a team and got the win we needed."
Bernard King, who left the game at the 10:50 mark of the third quarter with a lacerated chin that will require stitches, returned to the court to score all 12 of his points in the remainder of the second half.
"I really don't know what happened exactly," said King about the injury. "Someone's head just caught my chin."
"This was a huge win for us. We were a little sloppy in the first half, but we came out in the second half and just executed," said King.
King's layup with 8:11 left in the game gave Tulsa the lead for good at 74-73. King finished with a game-high 6 assists.
Roderick Riley, led the Patriots in rebounds (14) and Erik Daniels added a team-high 5 assists in the defeat.
