December 1, 2005 - NBA G League (G League)
Fayetteville Patriots News Release
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C., November 30 - The NBA Development League's Fayetteville Patriots and the Cumberland County School System have announced a partnership that sets the consolation and championship games of the annual high school SunCom Holiday Classic tournaments as part of an expanded Patriots gameday on Friday, December 30, 2005.
The Holiday Hoops Celebration will tip off at Noon at the Crown Coliseum with the consolation game of the girls' tournament, followed by the boys consolation matchup at 2 p.m. At 4, the girls' title game will start, with the boys' final set to start at 6. Then at 8, the Patriots tip off against the Florida Flame. In all, fans can watch five basketball games for one special admission price of $5 for reserved seating. And as a bonus, if the Patriots do not win the nightcap fans will receive free tickets to the following night's game against the Flame, which will be part of "Fayetteville's Biggest New Year's Eve Party."
"This event was successful last year and we were able to sit down and make it even better this year," said Patriots team president Todd DeMoss. "It's still a reserved-seat event and it's five games for just five dollars. But we've improved the presentation, reduced the price and we're even guaranteeing a Patriots win. It's going to be a great night."
The first three days of the high school tournaments will be played at areas schools - boys' games at South View and girls' games at Jack Britt. The eight county schools participating this year are Britt, South View, Seventy-First, Westover, Cape Fear, E.E. Smith, Douglas Byrd and Gray's Creek. "This tournament means a lot to the people of Cumberland County," said Fred McDaniel, the school system's student activities director. "There are bragging rights at stake for the kids and great basketball for the fans. We had a great time doing it with the Patriots last year and with the adjustments we've made, it should be even bigger this year."
The "guaranteed win" aspect will come into play at the end of the Patriots' game. If Florida wins, tickets for Saturday's game will be distributed to the fans as they leave the Crown Coliseum.
