66ers Closer Named Cal League All-Star

San Bernardino, CA - Inland Empire closer David Carpenter has been named to the California League All-Star Team. The team, comprised of 23 players representing all ten California League squads, will take on the Carolina League All-Stars on Tuesday, June 21st at John Thurman Field in Modesto.

"It was good news," said Carpenter about being selected to an all star game for the first time in his career. "It's an awesome honor. It definitely made my day."

David Carpenter has put together a fantastic first half of the 2011 season. The 66ers closer is fifth in the California League in saves with eight, and has allowed just one earned run over his last 13 games going back to May 4th, a 0.68 ERA in that span. Carpenter has a 1.14 ERA overall on the season as of June 8th. Opponents are batting just .239 against him and he has 30 strikeouts in 23 2/3 innings pitched.

Carpenter said he feels some responsibility to perform well while representing the Inland Empire. "Especially being the only player from the team who made it," said Carpenter. "I want to go have a good showing."

Fans can see David Carpenter and the 66ers take on the Lancaster JetHawks this weekend and wish David well on his upcoming trip to the All-Star Game. Promotions this weekend include: The Amazing Christopher presented by Redlands Jewelers Friday, June 10th, an Adrian Beltre Bobblehead giveaway Saturday, June 11th, and a pre-game kids clinic on Sunday, June 12th.
