INDIANAPOLIS, IN -- A two-run home run by Ozzie Albies in the top of the 11th inning sent the Gwinnett Braves (28-26) to a 6-4 win over the Indianapolis Indians (30-24) on Saturday night in game two of the three-game series at Victory Field.
Albies' decisive home run helped end a game that lasted over four hours and saw Indianapolis roar back from a 4-0 deficit to send the game into extra innings. It also helped the G-Braves end a four-game losing streak.
Gwinnett scored the first of its runs in the top of the first. Albies led off the game with a triple to right off Indianapolis starter Nick Kingham. Jace Peterson, in his first game for the G-Braves this season, followed with a double to left for a 1-0 lead.
The G-Braves added two runs in the top of the third. With one out, Mel Rojas Jr. singled to right and scored when Lane Adams tripled to deep left-center. Adams crossed for a 3-0 lead when Dustin Peterson lined a double to left.
The Gwinnett lead moved to 4-0 in the top of the eighth. With one out, Sean Kazmar Jr. singled to left off reliever Josh Lindblom and scored from first when Anthony Recker drilled a double to deep center.
However, the Gwinnett bullpen let the lead slip away. In the bottom of the eighth, Mauricio Cabrera walked former Grayson High School star Austin Meadows and hit the next batter Christopher Bostick. Jason Rogers plated both with a long double to right-center field, cutting the lead to 4-2. A fly out to center by Danny Ortiz moved Rogers to third. Lindblom then bunted to first, and the ball glanced off the glove of Carlos Franco, allowing Rogers to score from third to make it a 4-3 game.
Gwinnett took the one-run lead to the bottom of the ninth, but former G-Brave Joey Terdoslavich tied the game with a lead-off solo homer to right off Rhiner Cruz.
The game stayed tied at 4-4 until the top of the 11th, when Kyle Kubitza led off the inning with an infield single off reliever Dan Runzler. The Indians opted for Edgar Santana out of the bullpen and Albies greeted him with his third homer of the season.
Patrick Weigel started the game for Gwinnett and pitched 5.0 scoreless innings with three hits, four walks and five strikeouts. David Peterson (H, 4) struck out two over 1.0 inning. Gwinnett's 15-hit attack included a season-high eight extra-base hits. Albies extended his hitting streak to nine games by going 2-for-5 with a triple, home run, two runs scored and two RBIs. Jace Peterson was 3-for-6 with two doubles and an RBI. Rojas and Recker each collected two hits.
