Moncton Wildcats News Release
Coming off a defensive battle on Tuesday against the Eagles and stubborn stopper Oliver Satny, the Wildcats will face another tough tender Thursday.
The Val-d'Or Foreurs will be at the Avenir Centre and feature William Blackburn, the reigning QMJHL Player of the Week. In three games last week, the 19-year-old from Hebertville, Quebec went 3-0 with a 1.00 GAA and a save percentage of .974, propelling the Foreurs to an early-season win streak.
The Wildcats have been geting some excellent goaltending lately as well. Both Jacob Steinman and Vincent Filion have been stellar in the last 4 games, where the Wildcats are 3-0-0-1 and picked up 7 points in the standings.
Offensively, the Foreurs are led by their 20-year-old trio of C William Provost (7G-7A-14P), LW Alex Doucet (3G-10A-13P) and D Kale McCallum (3G-7A-10P). Captain Justin Robidas is back from NHL camp and has started to join in the scoring as well. Last year the 5th-round Carolina Hurricanes darft pick (147th overall) put up 82 points (30G-52A) and is on pace to surpass that his season with 9 points (2G-7A) in 6 games so far.
The Wildcats have been relying on scoring by committee, and it is a large committee. Their well-balanced attack is lead by Etienne Morin on the backend - 3rd in QMJHL scoring among defenceman - and shooter Yoan Loshing up front. Loshing has 9 points (2G-7A) and is 2nd in the league in dangerous shots with 27 (36 shots total). New York Ranger prospect LW Max Barbashev & C Thomas Auger lead in goals with 4 each.
